In enterprise environments, DevOps is often portrayed as the “anti-pattern”. They say that DevOps in large environments simply doesn’t work, and to some extent, this claim is true. In this talk, I would like to show you how each hierarchy in an enterprise environment can play a part in a successful DevOps strategy. We will look at three essential pillars of any DevOps strategy: culture, organisation, and technology. Here, the really interesting discussions arise.
Having a close-knit and cooperative team of technical specialists makes it easy to complete tasks. However, how to create such a team? How to develop both the team and the individuals? How to manage employees who are diverse in many ways these days and de facto often have different goals and sets of values? Having a team of individuals or relying only on seniors is not necessarily a good long-term solution. Create a “family” (as much as possible in a given project setup) that will allow you to achieve corporate, team, and individual goals. But how to provide space for development, cooperation, and maintaining the highest quality of work?
In this presentation, I will share our organization’s journey towards implementing a DevOps culture. I will discuss the challenges we faced and the solutions we found as we broke down silos, took over responsibility, and improved collaboration.
Expanding automated testing and investing heavily in Continuous Delivery, we were able to significantly improve our deployment frequency and lead time for changes. Furthermore, these changes to the development process had an even bigger impact in the way we are running initiatives.
I will also share the lessons we learned and best practices we developed along the way, highlighting our successes since starting to adopt DevOps in 2016. Furthermore, I will share the transformation effects on the organization itself. Attendees will get a better understanding of the practical steps involved in implementing DevOps transformation and how to overcome common obstacles.
