IS OPEN SOURCING MODELS LIKE CHATGPT UNETHICAL?
OpenAI started in 2015 to develop and democratize Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). In the beginning they were notorious for open sourcing any step they took towards this human level AI. But in recent years, when they started making bigger leaps forward, open sourcing didn’t happen. Nowadays you can be happy if you get paid API access.OpenAI claims that the models they build are dangerous. In many cases they have been shown to be misogynist and racist. Additionally ChatGPT and GPT3 can tell you the most convincing lies. And DALL-E 2 can draw any picture you can think of, even to the point where you can put famous people front and center in obscene scenarios like adult content or hateful protests. But how dangerous are they really? Is not open sourcing these models the best way to democratize AGI? Or is there more at play? Let’s dive deeper into what’s happening and what the risks are for humanity with the current strategy of OpenAI.
