Monoliths are a thing of the past. In 2022, everybody successfully builds microservices, often cloud-based. Well, on a flat earth, where COVID-19 does not even exist, that might be true. In reality, we struggle with breaking our legacy systems apart, and often end up with distributed monoliths rather than well-designed microservice architectures.
Starting from a simple example that we gradually expand, we will find out how to get things right, especially when we make the transition from a synchronous to a distributed, asynchronous system. Terms like “self-contained system” and “data sovereignty” will be mentioned and discussed.
We will work a lot with code-based examples, but you will not write code yourself due to time restrictions. An interactive design exercise will conclude the workshop and you will leave with new insights that can make the difference between success and failure in your next project.
